Doug Atkins was an American professional football player who played defensive end for the Cleveland Browns, Chicago Bears, and New Orleans Saints in the National Football League (NFL). He was an eight-time Pro Bowl selection and a member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Atkins was born in Humboldt, Tennessee, and attended the University of Tennessee, where he was a two-time All-American. He was drafted by the Browns in the first round of the 1953 NFL Draft. He played for the Browns from 1953 to 1954, the Bears from 1955 to 1966, and the Saints from 1967 to 1969. Atkins was a dominant defensive end, and was selected to the Pro Bowl eight times. He was also named to the NFL's All-Decade Team of the 1960s. He was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1982. Atkins died on December 30, 2015, at the age of 85.
